Introduction to Treeverse
Could Treeverse be the next Axie Infinity?
As the world of web3 expands, many people are looking at gaming to be the next web3 megatrend. With the incredible rise of Axie Infinity in 2021, the idea of another crypto-native game becoming mainstream is not impossible.
I took a look at some of the most featured virtual world-based NFTs, including some of the major players like Otherdeed, Sandbox, and Decentraland. However, with a lot of these NFT virtual worlds, I have seen a few issues. First, worlds like Sandbox and Decentraland seem to have an over expansive world with no real focus. Flying around in a virtual world can only be fun for so long. The second area virtual worlds and particularly games struggle with is creating an overcomplicated game with too many confusing elements. I shouldnโt have to read a textbook of lore to understand the basics of the game. And finally and most importantly, the game should be FUN. If the game isnโt fun, itโs not going to be a hit.
With Treeverse, the game seems to be different than many other NFT virtual worlds and web3 games. Firstly, the graphics are amazing; They contain a lot of nostalgic visual elements of old-school games like Zelda and Journey. The game will be an MMORPG (massively multiplayer online role-playing game), and it inspires to be the next RuneScape or World of Warcraft. The game will be released on mobile only and eventually port over to PC. Check out the 90-second video below to get an idea of some of the concept art and gameplay:
The game currently has three elements of NFTs: Treeverse Plots, NFTrees, and Timeless Characters. The land will allow users to have a public home, teleport to another area, rent out a home, and provide extra storage space. The NFTrees will be able to produce fruit to use in the game. And the Timeless characters will be a unique skin for your character. You can start to see some of the play-to-earn strategy concepts in the game. Users could potentially rent out their homes for a fee or sell the harvested fruit from the NFTrees.
The Treeverse team has been doing a good job of developing a robust game with a steady cadence of updates. Their Treeverse newsletter gives a monthly update that often includes video updates. Their most recent update included they will launch their own token ($ROOT) with two in-game currencies (Golden Saps and Prime Emeralds). A pre-alpha playable game is expected in Q4 2022. While it is still early, the future of Treeverse looks very exciting. To learn more about Treeverse, check out their website and Twitter.
